Chapter 4 is complete, as well, so I'll post it in a day or two. And hopefully get the final chapter finished up in the meantime.

And [livejournal.com profile] gilpin25 might be pleased to know that I've found a prompt at [livejournal.com profile] rt_challenge that will work perfectly for the "Overheard" conclusion she requested of me months ago when she stumped me good in that darn "Stump the Writer" meme.

Last night I posted chapter two of Jumping the Broom at [livejournal.com profile] rt_challenge. I hope y'all enjoy!

The third chapter's been giving me a lot of hassle this week, which was frustrating because I've had it all scripted since Friday and I could not figure out what the deal was. Then I realized I'm dealing with four characters in one scene, and that always goes so much slower than two. Or it does for me, anyway. Does anyone else have issues writing more than two characters in a scene? I'm always afraid of losing one of them along the way...Anyway, I'm hopeful of finishing up today, though lately I've had a bit of computer block and have been writing it all in my notebook, which will require some miracle for me to actually decipher my writing and get it typed up...

Also, an art rec! [livejournal.com profile] blackunicorn777 has outdone herself yet again with Remus and Tonks as cowboys, in honor of the recent [livejournal.com profile] metamorfic_moon Last Chance Full Moon Showdown. They have cowhide wand holsters. How cute is that?

Today's [livejournal.com profile] rt_challenge prompt, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] scarlett71177, gave me the chance to write a fic I've wanted to for a very long time, inspired by one of my favorite Loreena McKennitt songs which struck me as very much like the sort of wedding vows Tonks and Remus would make to one another. Actually, I'd thought it would be my inspiration for the wedding in "Masks and Mirrors", but it hit me differently after reading Deathly Hallows so I've worked it into "Caring For Magical Creatures" 'verse instead. Anyway, if you're looking for a Sunday afternoon read, here's a link to the first part. I think there will be five all told, and thank goodness they're turning out less than half the length of the "Serpents" chapters.

Title: Jumping the Broom (1/5)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrstater
Format & Word Count: WIP, 4111
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: #12: Never-Ending Road, by Loreena McKennitt (lyrics beneath the cut)
Warnings: paganism, language, original character
Summary: Newly engaged to Remus, Tonks finds the path to the altar fraught with more complications than she imagined. Particularly in the way of friends and family...
Author's Note: Another leap into the future in my Caring For Magical Creatures 'verse, but all you really need to know is that it operates under the premise that Remus and Tonks first met during POA, when Tonks was on assignment during her final year of training, and it's been a bumpy ride for them over the years, to put it mildly. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] godricgal for beta-reading.

In other news, the office ceiling fan and our AC have decided to malfunction simultaneously! It was 88 degrees out at midnight last night, and not much cooler in the house. Made sleeping a bit difficult last night, and I fully blame the weird temperature fluctuations as the AC struggled to work on my bizarre dream about Mr. Tater and me chasing a couple of rats through our house, catching them, and trying to figure out which one was Peter Pettigrew so we could dispose of him permanently! We were trying to call Sirius and Remus (Who you gonna call? Ratbusters!) but we didn't have Patronuses, so this was a problem! We also couldn't perform the charm to turn Peter back into a person, and before we could solve either that problem or the communication one, I was awakened by Dorrie meowing loudly outside the bedroom door. Though I guess it would have been the best solution: just let Dorrie eat Mr. Pettigrew. (She tried to eat a baby gecko the other night, and did not like it. I can't imagine Peter being terribly tasty.)

We're going to escape the sweltering heat of the day (the high today is 102, and already it's 82 with a heat index of 88 -- yuck!) by going to see The Bourne Ultimatum. I'd never seen the other two Bourne movies before this weekend, owing to making out with being distracted by then-new boyfriend Mr. Tater and missing half of it, and falling asleep the next time we tried to watch it. I like them! And I can't believe Matt Damon is nearly thirty-seven!

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend.

Title: Serpents
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrstater
Rating & Warnings: R for sexuality
Prompts: weakness; "In the light of Voldemort's return, we are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided."
Word Count: 66,000
Summary: Two years into a relationship with Remus, and the correct way to deal with full moons continues to elude Tonks, dredging up her insecurities and memories of painful past failures. Voldemort's attack on a fellow Order member puts everything into perspective for her...But will Remus see the light?
Author’s Notes: A leap into the future in the Caring For Magical Creatures, and eventually will be re-purposed to fit into that fic linear fashion. For now, it should stand alone even if you've not read that WIP, though the background might make more sense as it's a POA-era R/T romance. Other pertinent one-shots include You Should Know... and For the Fun Of It.

Written for the Last Chance Full Moon Showdown at [livejournal.com profile] metamorfic_moon, this fic won second runner-up in the Members' Choice category.

Title: For the Fun Of It
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrstater
Rating & Warnings: PG-13 for suggestive themes
Format & Word Count: One-shot, 1377 words
Pairing: Remus Lupin/Nymphadora Tonks
Summary: Tonks figures out what on earth you do the morning after you've slept with a man, only to have him point out that her concluded course of action is counterproductive.
Author's Note: Written for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] kileaiya, who stumped me in the Stump the Writer meme, as per her request for Remus and Tonks doing some kind of householdy thing, with or without magic, together. It's a little follow-up to You Should Know.... Hope this agrees with you, m'dear.

Title: You Should Know...
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrstater
